The honest marble conversation

Is marble right for your kitchen?

Yes, for the homeowner who sees patina as character. Maybe not, if every mark will feel like damage.

01Etching

Acids can dull the polish

Lemon, vinegar, and tomato can leave matte marks. A honed finish makes them less visually obvious.

02Porosity

Sealing matters

Marble absorbs more readily than engineered quartz, so prompt cleanup and periodic sealing are part of ownership.

03Character

Patina tells the room's story

Natural wear is exactly why some people choose marble: the surface becomes individual through use.

Where marble shines

Give the stone a setting that suits its nature.

Marble can live in a committed kitchen, but lower-use surfaces let its color and depth lead with less exposure to cooking acids.

Lower traffic and a smaller surface area make marble a strong statement for a primary or guest bath.

Marble questions

Useful answers before you choose the real thing.

Is marble a good choice for kitchen countertops?+

It can be if you accept etching, possible staining, and gradual patina as part of the material. A honed finish can make wear less noticeable. Choose marble-look quartz if maintaining a controlled appearance matters more.

Does marble stain easily?+

Compared with granite or quartz, marble can stain more readily because it is porous and sensitive. Periodic sealing and prompt spill cleanup reduce the risk without making the surface maintenance-free.

What's the difference between honed and polished marble?+

Honed marble has a matte, low-sheen surface; polished marble is glossy and reflective. Honing does not stop etching, but it usually makes dull marks blend into the finish more quietly.
